Model 2 shows how to determine the amount of CO2 produced following equation (6) if 4 moles of O2 are reacted. Show that the units obtained from the calculation to determine the number of moles of CO2 that are formed from the reaction of 2.50 g of CH4 are "moles of CO2" by writing out the relevant expression from the model and showing how the units cancel.

There are 2 O's on the left and 4 on the right so oxygen needs to be balanced. To balance O, add a coefficient of 2 in front of the O2.

The balanced equation is then,

CH,(g) + 2O2() CO2(8) + 2H,0) (6)
