Answer:

ZERO ERROR

➸ SCREW GAUGE -

Zero error is said to be a mechanical error that occurs in screw guage when the stud and screw are in contact and reference line of the main scale doesn't coincide with the zero of the circular scale.

The zero error in screw gorge is observed when the stud is with contact with the screw of the gauge.

There cases here -

  • No zero error : When the reference line of the main scale and zero of the circular scale coincides each other, then there is no zero error.
  • Positive zero error : When the reference line of the main scale is above the zero of the circular scale, then there is a positive zero error. (It can also be said as zero of the circular scale is below the reference line of the main scale)
  • Negative zero error : When the reference line of the main scale is below the zero of the circular scale, then there is a negative zero error. (It can also be said as zero of the circular scale is above the reference line of the main scale)

➸ VERNIER CALLIPER -

The zero error in vernier caliper happens when the jaws are in contact and the zero of the Vernier caliper does not coincide with the zero of the main scale.

The zero error in vernier caliper is observed when the two jaws in contact.

Three cases here -

  • No zero error : When the zero of the Vernier caliper coincides with the zero of the main scale, then there is no zero error.
  • Positive zero error : When the zero of the Vernier calliper is ahead of the zero of the main scale or can be said that the zero of the main scale is behind the zero of the Vernier calliper, then it is said to be a positive zero error.
  • Negative zero error : When the zero of the Vernier caliper is behind the zero of the main scale or can be said that the zero of the main scale is ahead the zero of the Vernier calliper, then it is said to be a negative zero error.
