Early atomic symbols were based on the method of Dalton.But it was not the ones we use today.Later Berzelius proposed the mordern atomic symbols which we use today.

Explanation:

The first atomic table was published by Mendeleev who arranged the elements on the basis of their atomic weight. This however resulted in the elements to reoccur again in the table periodically. There were also gaps in this table because the use of atomic number did not help in the identification of elements like noble gases.

However, the table was re-arranged by Henry Moseley on the basis of the atomic number of the elements. When the atomic theory was propounded by Dalton, the symbols of elements underwent changes.

Later, the atomic symbols were worked upon by Berzelius and the ones that we use today were corrected and given by Berzelius.
