It’s simply not. Traditional education is basically outdated and ineffective today.
I think that the traditional education system is lacking interactivity, engagement and specifically the appropriate and effective way to enter in a dialogue with the learners today. Interactivity is the key to make any kind of learning appreciative and efficient, in my opinion.
I think that today’s educational should not be based on the old school way of giving class anymore, especially higher education, thinking this is totally failing the students. You see, when you look at our educational system, it’s basically been the same for over centuries. Teachers and professors give their class, and students are supposed to sit quietly and listen. Passive learning has never been the answer and we have kept it for so long. It is obvious that just silently listening to someone talk leads to boredom, distraction, chatting , and now today, scrolling through your phone.
As everything around us, things evolve, the way we learn and teach should too. For instance, today we are surrounded by technology, technology has proven to help human kind in many ways. We achieve way more thanks to technology, and this is also applicable to education. Educators need to understand that technology can be leverage in the classroom and during teaching times.
Yes it might distract students, but even if you prohibit it, they will find a way to use their smartphones, tablets in class. So instead of fighting these digital tools, why not instead transform them into exceptional learning tools that enhance the learning and teaching experience.
It’s all about a mindset and embracing the reality we live in. Teachers and professors should meet students’ needs by integrating these digital tools such as tablet, computer and smartphone, that they were basically born with, into the learning process.
