Modern science and technology have brought about a revolution in human health. There was a time

when a very large number of people died of infections because they didn't know the rules of hygiene

and didn't bother much about cleanliness. Now modern medical research had told us that harmful

germs cause most of the diseases and so they should not be allowed to pollute our food, water,

atmosphere, etc. and for that, we must keep clean. So the government passed laws prohibiting people

from selling dirty and rotten eatables. Clean soap became easily available to all. The rules of health and

hygiene were taught to students in schools and propagated through press, radio, T.V., etc. All this did

much in improving the health of the people.

In the past medical science was not as advanced as it is now. New researches have given us wonderful

drugs, which can painlessly cure many diseases, which were previously considered incurable. Now

people are inoculated on a large scale to immunize them against fatal diseases like T.2., polio, tetanus,

whooping cough, measles, etc. More and more hospitals, both government and private, are being

opened for the healthcare of the people. There was a time when nurses were not well trained and they

used to be indifferent to patients and their needs. Now the nursing standards have been very much

raised. All this has alleviated human suffering and brought death rate from diseases considerably

down.

During the last few decades, there has been considerable advancement in the fields of agriculture,

dairy farming, breeding of fish, etc. All these developments have given more food that is more

nutritious to the people. Refrigerated ships, vans, etc. make available fresh fruits, vegetables, butter,

meat, etc. All this has improved the nutrition of the people, which is in no way less important than the

wonder drugs, the gift of modern medical science.
