MODULE-5(WORKSHEET-3)
A comparison of Acids and Bases
When dissolved in water, there are no visible differences between the
substances referred to as 'acids' or 'bases'. However, there are many other
physical and chemical properties that allow us to distinguish an acid from a
base. The table below illustrates some of the differences and similarities
between acids and bases.

Answer:

indicator blue and red litmus paper

properties of acid. it will release H3O ions as a only positive charge

properties of bases . it will release OH ions as only negative charge

properties shown by both . they both dissolves in water forming a Sol.

taste. Acid taste sour and bases taste bitter

reaction with metal. acids form salt and hydrogen and bases do not react with metals they react with metallic salt sol.to give salt and insoluble hydroxide

electrical conductivity . they both conduct electricity because of presence of ions

action on litmus paper . acid turns the damp Blue litmus paper red and bases turns damp red litmus paper blue

ph . acids have the ph less than 7 and bases have the ph more than 7 and ph 7 is neutral.
