The streets of a nation is the face of the nation. The first impression an outsider gets is from here without any doubt. This shows not just that the society is responsible, but also that it is healthy. A dirty street gives an impression of diseases and no body will feel like visiting again. And rightly so.

Waste accumulation has become one of the major problems in India today. Especially with the increase in population and more houses coming up everywhere. On the one hand, the population increase results in more waste generation and on the other, it exerts pressure on the land due to the increased demand for food, clothing and shelter. The latter results in lesser area available for proper waste disposal.

Waste, when accumulated on the streets, becomes breeding ground for disease causing agents like rats and flies. These then enter our homes and spread diseases. Sewage that is not cleared from time to time breeds mosquitoes that spread malaria and dengue. A need for the proper disposal of these and cleaning is essential to prevent the spread of such diseases.

Not just physically, waste accumulation is disturbing mentally as well. The offensive odour becomes a matter of concern resulting in headaches and people may not be able to concentrate on their work properly.

Thus, a clean society builds not just physically healthy nation, but a mentally sound one as well. Further, it provides a healthy image for the nation in front of other countries.
