Because his experiments did not work. Like, he declared Tughlaqabad as his capital, but, after walking half way from Delhi to Tughlaqabad, half of the city died and he decided to go back to Delhi. But, after reaching Delhi, he saw that almost the entire population of the city had died in the journey. Therefore, he became infamous for his experiments.

Muhammad bin Tughlaq is known as ‘a confused genius’ because his experiments failed. He was a modern man but the scenarios made him fail. Examples of his failures were;

(i) Moving the capital.

(ii) Introduction of token money.

(iii) Introduction of agricultural loans.
