Given : Mohan and Sohan ran 2km race twice. Sohan completed the first round 2 minutes earlier than Mohan.

In the second round, Mohan increased his speed by 2 km / hr and Sohan reduced his speed by 2 km /hr.

Mohan finished 2 minute earlier than Sohan.

To Find  :  the speed of both in the first round.

Solution:

Just by observing data we can conclude that difference in their speed difference  is 2 km

1st round

Mohan = x km  and  Sohan = x + 2 km

and 2nd round

Mohan = x + 2 km  and  Sohan = x km

2/x   -  2/(x + 2)  = 2/60

=> 1/x    - 1/(x + 2)  = 1/60

=> (x + 2 - x)60  = x(x + 2)

=> 120 = x² + 2x

=> x² + 2x - 120 = 0

=> (x + 12)(x - 10) = 0

=> x = 10

speed of both in the first round.

Mohan Speed = 10 km

Sohan Speed  = 12 km
