Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Mohan had some share wit h face value RS. 100 paying 8% dividend . he sold them for RS. 130 each and invested the proceed in RS. 50 shares of some  other company at RS. 75 and paying 12%dividend . If by doing so his annual income is increased by RS. 360 find the no. Of shares

  • Let a be the number shares
  • Now face value of each share is Rs 100
  • Rate of dividend is 8%
  • So dividend = 100 a x 8 / 100
  •                    = 8 a
  • Mutual value of each share is Rs 130
  • Sale proceed of a share = Rs 130 x a = 130 a
  • Investing this sum in Rs 75 share of Rs 50
  • Face value = 130 a x 50 / 75
  •                  = 260 a / 3
  • Dividend = 260 a / 3 x 12 / 100
  •                = 52 a / 5
  • Gain = 52 a / 5 – 8 a
  •         = 52 – 40 / 5 a
  •         = 12 / 5 a
  • Therefore we know that annual income is increased by Rs 360
  • So 12 / 5 a = 360
  • So a = 360 x 5 / 12

Therefore number of shares = 150
