1. Let present age of the son = x. Ten present age of the father = 3x + 3
After three years, age of the son = (x+3) and age of the father = (3x+3+3) = (3x+6)
Given that (3x+6) = 10 + 2(x+3)
3x + 6 = 10 + 2x + 6
x = 10
Present age of the father = 3x+3 = 3*10 + 3 = 33
2. father's age when her brother was born = 38+4 = 42
mother's age when her brother was born = 36
difference between the ages of her parents = 42 -36 = 6
3. Let present age of B = x and present age of A = (x+9)
After 10 years, age of A = x+9+10 = x +19
Before 10 years, age of B = (x-10)
Given that (x+19) = 2(x-10)
x + 19 = 2x - 20
x = 39
present age of B = 39
4. Take the ages as x , x+3, x+6, x+9 and x+12
x + (x+3) + (x+6) + (x+9) + (x+12) = 50
5x + 30 = 50
x = 4
age of the youngest child = 4
5. Take their ages as x and (45-x)
Five years ago, product of their ages = 34
(x-5)*(45-x-5) = 34
(x-5)(40-x) = 34
(x-5)(x-40) = -34
x^2 - 45x + 200 = -34
x^2 - 45x + 234= 0
(x-39)(x-6) = 0
x = 39 or 6
if x = 39, ages are 39 and (45-39)=6
if x = 6, ages are 6 and (45-6)=39
i.e, age of the father = 39 and age of the son = 6
