The celebrated archer Guru Dronacharya taught the royal princes the finer points of archery. One day he wanted to test the princes development. He selected a tree in forest and placed a wooden bird on a bare branch. The task for this test was that the princes had to hit the bird in the eye with their bow and arrow. Yudhisthir stepped forward first. “Can you see me?” asked Dronacharya him. ‘Yes’ replied Yudhisthir. Immediately Dronacharya asked him to put down the bow. Similarly, each prince replied the same and was asked to retire from the competition. They could not understand what was the problem and where did they go wrong. Finally came Arjuna's turn. “Arjuna, do you see me?” asked Dronacharya. “I see only my target,” said Arjuna. Impressed by the answer, Dronacharya permit him to carry out the task for the test. In one go, Arjuna hit the bird’s eye effortlessly. Therefore, he emerged as the winner of this test among the other princes.

And he asked them ,"What are you seeing?" Except Arjuna everyone replied that Gurudev we are seeing everything : bird, tree, branches, leaves and so on. Next Guru Dronacharya asked them to hit the bird in the eye. First Yudhisthir stepped forward but his wrong reply 'yes' ,made him to put down the bow. Because Dronacharya asked him, " Can you see me?" and he replied yes. Each princess replied the same answers that is why they were asked to retire from the competition. Finally Arjuna came and Dronacharya asked ,“Arjuna, do you see me?”. Great Arjuna replied the right answer and it was : “I see only my target”.
