See here in the question there is a inverse relationship between number of days and number of pages read everyday

So we come up with the following table

No. of days :- 10 | 8

No. of pages :- 40 | ? = x

So simply total number of pages is = 10 × 40 = 400

So to finish book in 8 days = 400 ÷ 8 = 50. pages per day

Or just put it another way that by inverse relation , we get

10 × 40 = 8 × x

400 ÷ 8 = x

50 = x
