Replacing the given values in formula (a) we have:

Amount Saved = Original Price x Discount in Percent / 100. So,

Amount Saved = 17.50 x 10 / 100

Amount Saved = 175 / 100

Amount Saved = $1.75 (answer).

In other words, a 10% discount for a item with original price of $17.50 is equal to $1.75 (Amount Saved).

See, i solved it with unitary method..

GST = 10% of 17.50

= 10/100 × 17.50

= 1/10 × 17.50

= 1.75

Therefore,

Original price = SP - GST. = 17.50 - 1.75

= 15.75 ans.

HOPE IT HELPS..
