Mohit travels 12 km towards north and then some distance towards east. By doing so he finds that he is at a distance of 15 km from his initial position. Find the distance travelled by him towards East .

If we draw the path, we would see that it creates a rightangled triangle whose one side = 12 km and hypotenuse = 15 km

Hence, the distance travelled towards east

  = \sqrt{ {15}^{2} - {12}^{2} } \\ = \sqrt{225 - 144} \\ = \sqrt{81} \\ = 9km

So, he travelled 9 km towards east.

HOPE THIS COULD HELP!!!

Hey !!!

If we draw a line we will get an Right angled triangle.

So we get side and hypotenuses...

Then ,

Whole root 15^2 -12^2

:- Root 225-144

:-Root 81

:- 9

So,he travels 9km towards east.
