To Find:

Mole fraction of solute

Solution:

0.5 molal solution means 0.5 moles of solute in 1 kg of water.

Number of moles of solute = 0.5

The molar mass of H2O = 18.015 g/mol.

Number of moles of solvent =  500/18

= 27.22

Mole fraction of Solute =  0.5 / 1 + 27.77

= 0.5/28.77

= 0.01737

Answer: The mole fraction of solute is 0.01737
