Unsaturated Hydrocarbons :

Compounds of carbon having at least one double or triple bonds between the carbon atoms are known as unsaturated carbon compounds.

Due to the presence of double and triple bonds, these compounds are more reactive.

For example : Ethene (CH2=CH2), propene (CH3-CH=CH2) etc.

They are further of two types :

• Alkenes

• Alkynes

Alkenes

=> General formula- CnH2n

(n= no. of carbon atoms)

=> All the members end with 'ene'

Alkynes

=> General formula - CnH2n–2

(n= no. of carbon atoms)

=> All the members end with 'yne'
