So according to the problem:-

Molecular weight of carbon is 12 while Hydrogen = 1

So,

12n+1(2n+2)=142

12n+2n+2=142

14n=142-2

14n=140

n=140/14

THEREFORE n=10

SO molecular weight of alkane is Decane
