Given:

There are 4 boxes.

Each box has 12 saplings.

Mona planted 1 1/6 box

Arul planted 1 6/18

\\

To FInd:

How many saplings did they plant?

How many saplings remain to be planted?

\\

Solution:

\\

Find the total number of saplings:

1 box = 12 saplings

4 boxes = 12 x 4

4 boxes = 48 saplings

\\

Find the number of saplings Mona planted:

\text{Number of saplings} = 1\dfrac{1}{6} \times 12

\text{Number of saplings} = \dfrac{7}{6} \times 12

\text{Number of saplings} = 14 \text{ saplings}

\\

Find the number of saplings Arul planted:

\text{Number of saplings} = 1\dfrac{6}{18} \times 12

\text{Number of saplings} = 1\dfrac{1}{3} \times 12

\text{Number of saplings} = \dfrac{4}{3} \times 12

\text{Number of saplings} = 16 \text{ saplings}

Find the total saplings planted:

\text{Total} = 14 + 16

\text{Total} = 30 \text{ saplings}

\\

Find the total not planted:

\text{Total not planted }= 48 - 30

\text{Total not planted }= 18 \text{ saplings}

\\

Answer: 30 saplings are planted and 18 saplings are not planted.
