If you want to buy bread, then money is definitely the essential one. And if you just want to know how to read, education would be the essential one. Both are equally important in their own way.
However, education has one giant benefit over money. Yes you need money!!! But when someone's money runs out, the ones with education will outkive others because they can continue to make money to survive.
Nobody can take education away from you. A thief can steel your money but not your knowledge. There are plenty of lottery winners who have blown through their winnings and ended up destitute. Remember- "Where there is education, there is money".
