GIVEN :-

  • Monica sold a saree to Kanika at a profit of 4%.
  • Kanika sold the same saree to Pallavi at 5%.
  • Pallavi paid 5460 for the saree.

 \\

TO FIND :-

  • Cost at which Monica bought the saree.

 \\

SOLUTION :-

Let Monica bought the saree at 'x' cost.

She sold that saree to Kanika at 4% profit.

Buying price (Kanika) = x + 4% of x

Buying price (Kanika) = x + (4x/100)

Buying price(Kanika) =104x/100

________________

Again Kanika sold saree to Pallavi at 5% profit.

♦ Buying price (Pallavi) =

ㅤㅤ[104x/100] + 5% of (104x/100)

But we know that she paid 5460.

 \\ \implies\sf \: 5460 = \dfrac{104x}{100} + \dfrac{5}{100} \left( \dfrac{104x}{100} \right) \\ \\ \\ \implies \sf \: 5460 = \dfrac{104x}{100} \left( 1 + \dfrac{5}{100} \right) \\ \\ \\ \implies\sf \: 5460 = \dfrac{104x}{100} \left( \dfrac{105}{100} \right) \\

 \\ \implies\sf \: 5460 = \dfrac{10920x}{10000} \\ \\ \\ \implies\sf \: 10920x = 5460 \times 10000 \\ \\ \\ \implies \sf \: 10920x = 54600000 \\ \\ \\ \implies\sf \: x = \dfrac{54600000}{10920} \\ \\ \\ \implies \underline{\boxed{\mathfrak{x = 5000}}} \\ \\

Hence , Monica purchased the saree at 5000.
