ɢɪᴠᴇɴ:-

  • Monika bought 100 chickens each for RS 80 and sold 20 of them at a gain of 5%

ᴛᴏ ғɪɴᴅ:-

  • At what gain percent must she sell the remaining chickens so as it to gain 20% on the whole transaction?

sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ:-

➥ CP of 1 chicken = 80/100 = 0.8

➥ SP of 20 chicken = CP of 20 chicken + gain

➥ 0.8 × 20 + 5/100 (0.8 × 20)

➥ 16 (105/100)

➥ 16.8

Total SP = 80 + 20/100 (80)

➠ 120/100 × 80

➠ 96

So,

SP of other 80 chicken should be

96 - 16.8 = 79.2

➮ SP = CP + gain

➮ 79.2 = 64 (1 + x/100)

➮ 19/80 = x/100

➮ x = 19×10/8

➮ x = 23.75%

Hence 23.75%, must she sell the remaining chickens so as it to gain 20% on the whole transaction.
