Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number he thinks about = x

Therefore,

\frac{5x}{3} - 6 = 24

\frac{5x}{3} = 30

5x = 30 × 3

5x = 90

x = \frac{90}{5}

x = 18

Hope it helps :)

Have a good day.

Let the unknown number be x .

This statement can be written in an equation as :-

  =  \frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt {3}} x \texttt { - 6 = 24}

 =  \frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt {3}} x \:  \:  \texttt    = \:  \:   \texttt {24 + 6}

 =  \frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt {3}} x \texttt   { \: = \:  30}

 = x   \texttt { = 30 ÷ } \frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt{3}}

 = x  \texttt { \: = 30 \: ×}  \:  \:  \: \frac{ \texttt {3}}{ \texttt {5}}

 = x \texttt { =} \:  \:   \frac{ \texttt {30×3}}{ \texttt {5}}

 = x   \texttt { = } \frac{ \texttt {90}}{ \texttt {5}}

 = \color{hotpink}x  \texttt { \: = 18}

Let us check whether or not we have found out the correct value of x, by placing 18 in the place of x.

Which means :-

 =   \frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt {3}} × \texttt {18 \:  -  \: 6 \:  =  \: 24}

 =  \frac{ \texttt {90}}{{3}}  \texttt { - 6 = 24}

 =  \texttt {30 - 6 = 24}

 =  \texttt {24 = 24}

\hookrightarrow  \texttt {\: \color{olive}LHS = \color{hotpink}RHS }

As the left hand side of the equation is equivalent to the right hand side of the equation, we can conclude that we have found out the correct value of x .

Therefore ,

\color{olive} \texttt {The  equation}  \: =  \color{hotpink}\frac{ \texttt {5}}{ \texttt {3}} × \texttt {18 \:  -  \: 6 \: \color{olive} =  \: 24}

and the value of the number = 18 .
