1. Grandfather bought Tutu from a street entertainer for the sum of ten rupees.
2. Grandmother at first objected to have a monkey in the house.
3. She was ready to keep Tutu as a pet later on, after knowing that Tutu was a girl monkey.
4. Grandmother always wanted a little girl in the house because she believed girls were less
troublesome than boys.
5. Aunt Ruby was frightened of Tutu and other pets of the grandfather especially the
python.
6. Aunt Ruby made all surprised by announcing her engagement with Rocky, who was a
good-natured man.
7. The narrator overheard Aunt Ruby and Rocky talking of going to the bazaar to buy an
engagement ring, so he decided to follow Aunt Ruby secretly to the bazaar.
8. Tutu followed the narrator as he became aware that a mission of some importance was
underway.
9. The reaction of Aunt Ruby and Rocky when they saw the narrator in the shop, was not too
pleasing.
10. Tutu showed her presence in the shop by making a little squeal of delight and trying a

canal that ran down the road.
15. The necklace was restored to the shopkeeper by Rocky, who found it in the canal
covered in mud, water-lilies, ferns and tadpoles.
16. Tutu interfered in the cooking when Grandmother went to the kitchen to prepare the
wedding cake.
17. Some guests were not seen for several days after the wedding because they ate the cake
that had an interesting flavour in which Tutu had added red chilli sauce, bitter gourd seeds
and egg-shells.
