Monologue on Deforestation

Monologue Portfolio in the third six weeks.
Trees have an importance as they are created by nature and help us breathe. Trees take in gases like carbon dioxide and let out oxygen so that we can breathe. They also decrease climate change by absorbing greenhouse gases from the air. When the trees are cut the gases are released into the atmosphere. This increases climate change, whereas when the trees were alive; they were decreasing the effect of climate change.
Deforestation is a huge problem for many reasons. Its main causes are the need for paper products and the need of space. Space is needed for housing and communities but the space is mainly needed for agriculture. Farmers clear cut land in a process called slash and burn. They use the land to grow crops or for livestock to graze. The growth of urban civilizations is killing off the environment at a rapidly growing pace. As the human population grows, more space and products, as well as roads and building materials are needed.
Deforestation is also part of the rising soil problem. Top soil around the world is beginning to disappear in a process called soil erosion. We are losing valuable crop land because about 10 million hectares (around 37,000 miles) disappear each year. About 70% of the world’s plants and animals live in forests. When the trees are cut down animals habitats and food sources are cut off leaving the plants and animals with a small chance of survival. This raises the number of animals that are endangered or extinct.
