Montesquieu was one the intellectuals who became an inspiration for french rebels. He was the champion of liberty and freedom. His work Spirit of Laws was instrumental in creating a desire for liberty. He was against the feudal setup and absolute monarchy. He was then architect of the theory of separation of  powers. He believed in equality and was against the divine rights of kingship. These ideas of Montesquieu influenced the french rebels a lot and thus brought Revolution in France in 1789.
