The theme of the poem is that evil deeds never go unpunished. The evil doer initially doesn't feel anything but in the end he is always miserable. The moral of the poem is that " Every good deed is awarded with good and every bad deed is punished with evil". The evil doer becomes the victim of his own wicked designs.
