Explanation:

In the story The Boss came to dinner, the author, Bhisham Sahani, brings out very clearly the plight of aging parents in today’s metropolitan cities.

In the story, Shamnath invites his boss to dinner with the hope that it would help him advance in his career. While making all the arrangements, he decides that his mother should not come out as she was old and aging and would not fit in the circumstances. He orders her not to sleep as she would start snoring.

All these poignantly bring out the intentions of the son.

In today’s materialistic world, all that matters to the children is getting ahead in the rat race. The sacrifices of parents are forgotten and they are relegated to the background.

The moral of the story is that children should take care of their elderly parents and not hurt their sentiments. They should remember that old people need very little but they need that little that much more.
