MERITS:
Based on atomic number which is more fundamental than atomic weight.
Position of element is related to electronic Configuration. Elements belonging to same group has same number of electrons in valence shell and show similar chemical properties.
Dissimilar elements are not placed together.
Different types of elements have their separate locations

DEMERITS:
Position of hydrogen remains controversial.
Lanthanide and actinides could not be placed in main body.
