When it comes to taking pride in own nation, Indians are not good compared to others. We, Indians don’t appreciate what we got, we don’t appreciate what we are and where we are today. Yes, we are not the best but no other country is. Every country has problems, but their problems are different than us but they do have problems. The United States of America is the richest country, it’s a developed country, a normal person earns more compared to us but that doesn’t make it a problem-free country.(Donald Trump is their president, can you imagine that) Do you know that the USA is becoming one of the most dangerous countries to live? Do you know how they spy their own citizen? Do you know how they intervene in Middle Eastern and world politics to maintain their hegemony over the world?
Same time it is true that they have got better infrastructure, health insurance, education and other important systems. Point is that we fail to realize that we compare our nation which got freedom 70 years back with a country which got it 200 years back. Some will counter this point by comparing with Singapore’s development or Hiroshima or Nagasaki rebuilt after atomic bomb disaster. Yes, they have done a commendable job, full credit goes to their people and leadership. We have to realize that Singapore is a tiny country and other two are cities. On another hand, India is way bigger and complicated. And to expect such development government and citizens should be on the same page. This is the one things we Indians are lacking in and which is restraining us from progress.
I am proud to be Indian because of following things,
Democracy
India is the biggest democracy in the whole world. We know that but we tend to don’t understand it. Because of this democracy only we can express ourselves, we can vote. It is true that democracy has loop-holes, it is not the best governing system. Politicians, leader take advantages of this loopholes, play with the system. But we need to understand is there is no other option which comes close to it.
We know that China is progressing faster than India but they have a communist one-party government system, which controls everything. China boasts their progress but what about people, their rights? China is a closed country where all aspect of it ran by the government. Do we want such system in India? Are we ready compromise freedom for development?
We compare ourselves to the richest country like USA or UK which was a biggest imperial empire. Those who don’t understand how these countries become rich and stay rich makes failing comparison. The USA made money by selling guns, tanks, planes, and ammunition in world wars which killed and displaced millions of people. They intervene in almost every country’s politics, not because they care for people of that country (though that is the excuse they might give), they do it for their own profit. They will do go any extent to maintain their hegemony over the world.
British looted almost whole world in colonization era, they let people die on roads but kept looting everything from grains to gold.
Diversity
I feel proud to be Indian because of our diversity. We are the only country where people of different race, religion, faiths, beliefs, caste, and income live together and never had a civil war so far. If we observe, India is like Europe where each state can be country by itself. Still, we all stay together, fight the problems we have and go forward together.
Talent and Hard work
We don’t have best education system but Indians are acknowledged as talented and hardworking individuals all over the world. Currently, Indians are pioneering in almost every industry on the planet from business management to rocket science. We are the people who managed to reach planet Mars on the first attempt with a budget less than a Hollywood movie.
Diverse Economy
Gulf nations enjoy the high riches due to the abundance of crude oil, but the same thing is the problem too. Their economies thus development and prosperity depend on oil only. Where Indian economy is diverse and I am proud of it. We don’t depend on a single industry, our economy consists all industries from agriculture to software services.
Conclusion:
I don’t endorse that we Indians should settle for less because others also got the problem, but the same time we should appreciate what we got and improve upon it. We are not the perfect country but we can, and I am indeed proud to be Indian.

Indians have contributed significantly to many fields. Whether it is music or literature these indians have made the nation proud.
Arundhati Roy, a global figure in the field of literature won the booker prize for her novel, God of Small Things. Saina Nehwal made each indian proud with her performance in the olympics.
It is definitely a proud moment for me a when indians get recognition worldwide.
