Good Morning My Respected Teachers And My Dear Friends
Makar Sankranti marks the arrival of spring season and is one of the auspicious festivals celebrated in India. This day is dedicated to Lord Surya or Sun and falls on January 14. Makar Sankranti is the festival of harvesting, kites and charity and is celebrated throughout India with splendour and glory. Each region has its distinct essence of celebration. Forms are different but the purpose is same, bidding goodbye to the winter season and giving a rousing welcome to the spring season.
The children of KII celebrated Sankranti at GIIS Chinchwad on January 14, 2015 with an Assembly on the occasion. The Assembly started with a special message to mark the occasion. The children were told about the importance of Sankranti and its distinct name in every region Uttarayan in Rajasthan and Gujarat, Pongal in South India, Til Sankranti or Khichdi in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Maghi in Punjab and Haryana, Bihu in Assam and the famous Ganga Sagar in West Bengal. Sweets of Til or sesame and Jaggery are a must on this festival in all parts of India. Sankranti is also known as the Kite Festival as well as the Harvest Festival. It’s a festival of song and dance. The children performed vibrant and energetic Punjabi and Gujarati dances to usher in the festival. The dances brought out the true essence of the day which was ‘fun and festivities.’ A loud cheer of “Happy Sankranti” boomed throughout assembly greeting everyone!
