An Early Morning Scene

Every time I walk down the streets during morn, I find myself immersed by its serenity. Up till now, there are no words to describe the morning picture; not a single syllable.

Many admire the autumn day, but when better to see the warm orange glow of the sun then dawn! Venetian architects had truly outdone themselves. You can hardly find a flaw on these elaborate furnishings and exquisite tiles. Withal, a true Venetian will know where to encounter the perfect epitome of the local sunrise – The Grand Canal.

Walking alongside the canal brings you to numerous scenic locations. The way the sunlight hits the buildings; the outline of the magnificent constructions. The friendly faces you meet and the great bargains offered down the path. To complete the scene, autumn trees of all sorts and colours crouched at the sides. The leaves have not abandoned the trees yet, although the vibrancy of its contours faded slightly, especially the gingko trees – a dull yellow. Although somewhat disappointing, the image the latter formed fits entirely with everything else.

It is as if there is an unwritten change, that when something grows old and dies, something else awakens to replace the dead.

Then, you hear a loud greeting from a man on a little boat, 'Good morning, girlie!' There is nothing much you can do but to wave back. Gondola rides were not made for the use of couples only, ordinary lonely folk are permitted to ride it as well. So I waited at the dock and climbed in the boat.

After a few minutes, one can tell the view was nothing short of picturesque. The Gondola flows with the canal and being in that enviable spot, you will be able to observe nearly every shop, every hotel and every cathedral around the area. Just when you take it all in, the ride ceases, you leave quietly but half-heartedly, comforting yourself that the joyride was not worth your lunch money.

That is how I feel, most of the time.

Alas, when I feel lazy from all that walking, I will plop down one of those benches nearby and stare, appalled at the beauty of it all. Everything moves around you, while you stay stationary, the rest of the world continues ahead. It leaves you in a peaceful moment .
