Question :-

Moses is five times as old as his dog, Spot. In nine years, Moses will be twice as old as Spot. What are their ages now?

Solution :-

Let Spot's present age be x years.

So, Moses present age is 5x years.

Spot's age after nine years = (x+9) years

Moses's age after nine years = (5x+9) years

But, according to the given condition:

(5x + 9) = 2(x+9)

5x + 9 = 2x + 18

5x - 2x = 18 - 9

3x = 9

x = 9/3

\boxed {\mathbb {\pink {x = 3}}}

Present ages :-

Spot's present age = x years = 3 years

Moses's present age = 5x years = 5×3 = 15 years

HOPE IT HELPS!!
