For desert plants, water is not easily available so to capture the underground water they have deep roots but this is not the case with aquatic plants bcoz they have plenty of water.

The nature have given very deep roots to desert plants to bring water deep from the sand so that these plants have adaptation to survive in scarcity of water in desrt, whereas, most aquatic plants don't have roots as water is abundant for aquatic plants.
