yes, because it is directly related to a spiritual belief of japanese people...moreover it looks classy , cheap , easier to clean , hides the uneven wooden floor and comfortable.
Basically a tatami is a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese-style..
one more reason is , majority of japanese houses are made up of wood because of frequent earthquakes , and its difficult to cement the floor or use marble or tiles on the wooden floor , therefore the Japanese people came up with the idea of using tatami mats
