Most metals do not react with bases but zinc metal does because it is atmospheric. That is, it reacts with acids as well as bases. The reaction between zinc and NaOH is as follows: When sodium hydroxide solution is heated with zinc, then sodium zincate and hydrogen gas are formed.

Answer:
Zinc reacts both with acids and metal it shows the property of zinc as an amphoteric oxide.
Zn + NaOH ---> Na2O4Zn+ H2 [with base]
Zn + HCl ---> ZnCl + H2O [with acid]
(these reactions of zinc with acid and base are similar to the reaction of aluminium with acid and base given an NCERT)
