Most of the british government offices kept a record of all processes. When and why did the stystem start in india? What was the reason of starting such a system

In British period this system was started in India because they felt important documents should be carefully preserved. The records can be referred to studied ,analysed and debated ,as when required.It led to rise of administrative culture of memos and reports

the British government office kept a strict record of all processes in order to create administrative precedents. This system starts in 1771 when an offices records keeper was appointed to maintain Present records and to keep safe older records.
