The Himalayan beauty is not merely limited to mountains. Many of these high altitudes have lakes which are freshwater lakes formed by glacial activities. Fresh water lakes are formed when glaciers dig out basins that is later filled with melted snow. When the weather in the Himalayas gets warmer, the snow starts melting and all these basins are filled with melted snow, thereby creating fresh water lakes which is unsalted and pollution free. Most of these are in the Himalayan region.
The largest fresh water lake in India is in Jammu and Kashmir which is the Wular Lake. "Other freshwater lakes" are the Bhimtal, Dal, Loktak, Barapani, and Nainital.
