The name of the tissue is sclerenchyma. It is a type of simple permanent tissue characterized by dead cells having thick and often lignified cell walls.

Due to its hardness, it acts as a skeleton in plants. It has the ability to bear compression, pull, bending and shearing forces. It also found to provide grittiness to fleshy fruits such as guava, pear and sapota and it also offers hardness to nuts, seed coats and leaves such as tea leaves.
