it is because at the place boundaries due to the tension between plates mountains and trenches are formed which produce lava as the chance of leak of lava is maximum between the tectonic plates

The part of the plate boundary which slides under the crust subdues .There is loss of material . Such boundaries are called plate consuming (subduction) boundaries. In area's, where new material is coming up onto the earth's crust, they are called plate creating ( constructive) boundaries. Both the process happen continuously.
