(Mrs. Pearson is sitting alone in her room.)
Mrs. Pearson (sad expression on her face): Why is it that the mothers are taken for granted almost in all families across the world? Is it God’s will that they should live an oppressed and suppressed life? They work day and night without any respite looking after their family, and yet don’t receive half as much love and care in return from their family members! My own husband, son, and daughter are apathetic and indifferent to my love and care. How can they be so callous? My daughter is just self-centered. She wants her food ready on time; her dresses to be washed and ironed; and then she goes out to have fun! She does not sit for a moment for a moment, not to mention lending me a helping hand in household chores! She is so much infatuated with that Charlie Spence. She is going to spoil her life. But she does not listen to me! My son is equally negligent towards me. He just comes home to dine and change his clothes and argues unnecessarily with me. He is so particular about his working hours at work! What about my work hours? I am always working for them, and still there is no gratitude! My husband is the worst lot. It is moral responsibility to give me company and spend time with me; but he is always in hurry to go to club and play billiards with his friends who make fun of him! O God, what should I do? I feel as if I am their servant, I have indirectly told all of them that I have my rights also; that I also want to go out with them. But they have never ever paid heed to my needs. Even now I am sitting at home sulking and brooding over my sad lot while they are partying out with their buddies and friends!
