Mothers age is four times her daughter's age. 5 yrs hence mothers age will be thrice her daughter's age then. Find their present ages

Let Mother’s present age is ‘ X’ years and Daughters’s age is ‘Y’

As per given problem

X + Y = 55 years ……Equation (1)

(X-5) = 4 (Y-5) or ( X - 4 Y ) = ( -20 + 5) = (-15 ) …. Equation (2)

By subtracting Equation (2 ) from Equation(1) we will get

5 Y = 70 or Y = (70/5) = 14

As X+ 14 = 55 then X = ( 55–14 ) = 41

Hence, Present age of Mother is 41 Years and Daughter’s age is 14 Years
