1. A sphere of mass 25 kg and diameter 0.4 m is
revolving about its geometrical axis at the rate of
2100 revolutions per min. Calculate its : (i) moment
of inertia, (ii) angular momentum.​

Answer:

i) Moment of inertia of solid sphere about its geometrical axis, I = 5/2 MR², where M is mass and R is radius

I = 5/2 × 25 × (2/10)² = 5×25×4/2×100 = 5/2 Kgm²

ii) Angular momentum, L = Moment of inertia × Angular Velocity = I × w (w = 2100 rpm = 21 radian/sec)

L = 5/2×21 = 52.5 Kgm²/s
