as you know,

  • Power = work/time

and simply you can say.

  • work = Force x distance

lets say boat has moved for one second.

then the distance reached by the boat is 12 meters. because the speed is 12 m/s.

  1. Force of engine = 3500N
  2. distance moved = 12m

so now, work done by engine can be calculated

  1. work= 3500 x 12 = 42000 and
  2. Time = 1 second

power = work/time

=42000/1

=42000W = 42kW
