⏩ As the altitude increases, the temperature around decreases. When you go up to the mountains, the sun may become harsh but the air around will not preserve the sun's heat. At higher altitudes, the air gets thinner and hence, even though these areas are closer to the sun, they have less ability to absorb the warmth of the sun because the quantity of gases around there seems to be less.

And this is the reason why mountains appear to be cool even in hot weathers...
