(i) Labrum :

  • It is a broad, chitinous flap which forms anterior margin of mouth cavity (hence also known as upper lip).

(ii) Mandibles :

  • These are two small structures. They work like jaws.

(iii) Maxillae :

  • They lie beneath the mandible on either side on the head capsule. Both maxillae act as accessory jaws.

(iv) Labium (lower lip) :

  • It is a single structure forming lower lip.

(v) Hypopharynx :

  • A median flexible lobe acting as tongue.
