How was spendthrift youth compared to a flag bedecked ship?
Answers
Answer:
In the Act 2 Scene 6, we see Gratiano comparing a spendthrift youth to a bedecked ship. In his opinion, a prodigal youth, all wealthy and rich, leaves the town- dressed elegantly to his maximum with pockets overloading with gold coins. Due to his spendthrift nature, he continues to spend the wealth to his bankruptcy and returns empty handed to his town - in rags and his pockets empty. Similarly, just like a spendthrift youth, a ship, all decorated to its maximum leaves the harbour with its majestic sails, showing off the pride to others. Due to storms and pirates and land rats, the ship loses its beauty due to its decorations falling off and the sails turning into rags for which, just like the prodigal son, it returns bankrupted, just like a pauper. In this way, the spendthrift youth is compared to a bedecked ship.
