Member of Parliament: Lok sabha and Rajya sabha

The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division is entrusted with the responsibility of implementation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). Under the scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for, works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency.

The Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament can recommend works in one or more districts in the State from where he/she has been elected.

The Nominated Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha may select any District in the Country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme. The Department has issued the guidelines on Scheme Concept, implementation, and monitoring. The Department has initiated all necessary steps to ensure that the scheme is successfully implemented in the field.

Member of Legislative Assembly:

Each state has their own MLA Local Area Development Scheme Fund.

Lets check major state MLA Local Area Development Scheme Funds,

Delhi: The scheme was started in the year 1994-95 when the fund under the scheme was Rs.1.00 crore per MLA per year. After gaining some experience the Govt. decided to revise the scheme and increase the fund to Rs.1.40 crore per MLA per year w.e.f. 1999-2000. From the financial year 2000-01 the limit of Rs.1.40 crore has been raised to Rs.1.90 crore per MLA. And from 2004-05, the limit has been further increased to Rs.2.00 crore and w.e.f 2011-12 the limit has been further increased to Rs. 4 crore.

Telangana: Increase the MLA constituency development fund to Rs 3 crores from Rs 1.5 crores in 2016.

Tamil Nadu: Increased from Rs.1.75 crore to Rs.2.00 crore per Constituency per annum from 2011-2012 onwards.

Madhya Pradesh: MLA development funds to be raised to Rs. 2 crore.

Assam: The Annual fund of Rs.5.00 lakh per Legislative Assembly Constituency(LAC) was increased to Rs.10.00 lakh ,which was further increased to Rs.20.00 lakh in 1997-98. The Annual Fund per LAC was further enhanced to Rs.30.00 lakh in 2003-04. In 2007-08, it has been decided to step up the annual amount further to Rs.40.00 lakh per LAC subject to utilization of MLAAD fund for previous years. Schemes as identified , where cost of individual work should be considered ranging minimum of Rs.25,000,00 to the maximum of Rs.5.00 lakh only.
