Initial Price of Bicycle

Answer: Amount paid by Mr a for bicycle is Rs 1000.

Explanation:

Given that

Mr a sell a bicycle to Mr b at a profit of 20%.

Mr b sells same bicycle to mr c at a profit of 25%

Amount paid by Mr c is Rs 1500

Need to determine amount paid by Mr a for bicycle .

lets assume amount paid by Mr a for the bicycle = Rs x

so amount paid by  Mr b =  amount paid by Mr a  + profit of 20%

⇒ amount paid by Mr b  = amount paid by Mr a + 20% of amount paid by Mr a

⇒ amount paid by Mr b  = x + 20% 0f x = x + 20x/100 = 120x/100

amount paid by Mr c = amount paid by Mr b + profit of 25%

⇒ amount paid by Mr c  = amount paid by Mr b + 25% of amount paid by Mr b

⇒ amount paid by Mr c  =( 120x/100 ) + 25% 0f ( 120x/100 )

                                         = ( 120x/100 ) +  (25/100) ( 120x/100 )

                                         =  ( 120x/100 )  ( 1 + 25/100)     [ taking ( 20x/100)                 out of bracket ]

⇒ amount paid by Mr c  =  ( 120x/100 ) × ( 125/100)

⇒ amount paid by Mr c = (120 × 125 × x ) / (100 × 100 )

⇒ amount paid by Mr c =  15x/10

⇒ amount paid by Mr c =  3x/2

but its given that amount paid by Mr c =   Rs 1500

⇒ 3x/2 = 1500

⇒ 3x = 1500 × 2

⇒ x = 3000/3 = 1000

Hence amount paid by Mr a for bicycle = x = Rs 1000.
