Given : Mr. Anand Raj sold the 100 shares of FV Rs 36 when market was Rs 40. He paid 0.4 % of Brokerage.

To Find : the amount earned in selling shares

Solution:

Assumption : Brokerage paid only at time of selling

FV  of shares =  36  Rs

Number of Shares = 100

Investment = 36 * 100  = Rs 3600

MV of share = Rs 40

Selling Price of 100 Shares = 40 * 100 = Rs 4000

Brokerage = 0.4 %  = (0.4/100)4000  = Rs 16

Amount received = 4000 - 16  = 3986 Rs

Amount Earned = 3986 - 3600  = Rs 386

the amount earned in selling shares  = Rs 386
